Updating your software in OS X Mountain Lion and later

In Mountain Lion and later, software updates come through the Mac App Store.

You’ll get automatic notifications that updates are available. These are usually find in the top right hand corner and should be performed as soon as possible.

In addition to clicking “Update” in a notificaiton alert, you can follow these steps to get the latest software for your OS X and Mac App Store apps.

  1. Choose Apple Menu > Software Update – if prompted, enter an admin name and password.
  2. The App Store opens and displays any software updates available for OS X and Mac App Store apps. OS X updates will be at the top of the list.
  3. Click “Update All” to install all available software updates. If prompted, enter an admin name and password then Apple ID and password.
